Now that we’ve moved to the city, Maya and Toby are enjoying a pretty decent sized yard!! When Kati and I decided to move closer to work and get out of the county, one of the main priorities was to find a house in the city that had a good sized yard for the Maya. When we found the house in Benton Park we knew we’d found the perfect spot. Now Maya can go outside and and mill around as long as she wants without me having to worry about her. I can’t tell you how relaxing it is to be able to let her out and not have to worry. What’s really cool is that we can actually play with her and Toby out there in the mornings before work. If I had to complain, I guess I would say that mowing the lawn is something I’m getting used to.

We knew Maya was going to love riding in cars when we put her in the U-Haul on the way to Washington, DC. It was July of 2007 and Maya was about 5 months old. As soon as we put her in the truck, she jumped up on the dashboard and proceeded to chew her bone and take a nap for a couple of hours. She’s definitely got A LOT of personality.

Kati got too close!

“I’m just a little Pit Bull riding on the dashboard….what’s weird about that?”

Look at the little Maya!! Wow, she is so small. This was June, 2007, and it was her first night after we brought her home from the Humane Society. She was so excited just to be able to get some human attention. On one of the many walks I took her on (teaching her that OUTSIDE is where you potty), we ventured too close to the dumpster. Maya ran around the corner of the dumpster just before I got there and ran into and VERY surprised skunk. Pepe le Pew immediately turned and sprayed curious little Maya right in the nose!!! Maya was immediately rushed inside and given her first bath with the only tomato substance we had on hand….tomato soup. It didn’t do much for the stink so poor Maya (and our house) smelt of skunk for weeks. After her skunk adventure, she explored the house, played with her brother Toby and eventually wore herself out. She was out like a light.

Look at that fat little belly! She’s our little piggy!

In the beautiful state of Colorado, there are so many places to go exploring. It was June, 2007 and Maya was about 4 1/2 months old when we decided to take her to Eleven Mile Canyon with Kati’s parents. Eleven Mile Canyon is right off Hwy 24 just past the town of Florissant. I can’t get over the views we saw at this place. We decided to climb up one of the tallest rocks we could climb and snap a few shots of the river below. Maya was a great climber. She was a little clumsy at times and we worried about her rolling back down the hill, but she made to the top like a trooper.

Here is Maya and Toby walking along the river. Look at Maya and Toby side by side. I can’t get over how small she used to be.

In August, 2007 we moved from Washington D.C. to St Charles, Missouri. Maya was just excited that she had a ton more room to run around and play. Her favorite thing to do when she is hot and tired is to lay flat on her stomach on the cold tile floor. She also loves to catch some rays on the patio.
